Methyl Methacrylate is a monomer used in manufacturing of various polymers. It is also known as “Methyl Ester of Methacrylic Acid”. It is a colourless liquid with a typical acrylic odour. Methyl Methacrylate Monomer is a key building block for acrylic based polymers either in
It is used in exterior paints, in improving the properties of PVC , as adhesives & mainly for making transparent polymethyl methacrylate Cast Sheets (also known as Acrylic Cast Sheets). The major use of Methyl Methacrylate is in the manufacture of transparent rigid plastic called Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA).
Poly Methyl Methacrylate is mainly used as a substitute for glass in many applications because of its clarity & strength.
Methyl Methacrylate is manufactured through routes starting with
PMMA is used in aircraft windshields, canopies, glass roofing, façade design, advertising, automobile headlamps.
PMMA is also used in window and door profiles, Aquariums (Fish Ponds), automobiles (car windows, motorcycle fenders, Windows of ships etc.
PMMA is also blended with other plastics such as PVC, Polycarbonate, ABS etc. To get optimum properties.
Now all these plastics after few years do get scrapped and get replaced by new ones. The scrap or the waste plastic containing predominantly PMMA is collected, sorted out and separated into useful PMMA which then is converted back to Methyl Methacrylate Monomer by a highly technology-oriented process.
Since the consumption of PMMA has increased over the years across the globe, the scrap or waste PMMA disposal has become a serious problem of waste management for the countries.
So, the management at CHIRAG ENTERPRISE came with the idea to convert the waste PMMA into useful product and avoid environmental pollution issues.
Chirag Enterprise has set up extensive arrangement to collect, sort, grade and store PMMA articles and scrap items and then convert the same into useful monomer called recycled Methyl Methacrylate Monomer.
At chirag enterprise we have a modern plant fully equipped to handle 2000 Mt per month of waste PMMA and convert into distilled MMA.
This distilled MMA is having the following properties as compared to the virgin MMA.
Virgin MMA | Recycled MMA | |
Appearance : | colorless | colorless |
Purity: | 99.5% min | 98.5% min |
Moisture: | 0.1 max | 0.3 Max |
Due to the highly complex mixture of impurities in the PMMA plastic processing the purity of Recycled Methyl Methacrylate Monomer is slightly lower than that of Virgin Methyl Methacrylate Monomer.
Recycled MMA is successfully used in Emulsion Polymers, Suspension Polymers, Acrylic adhesives in the textile, Construction and paint Industry. It is also used in Optic fibre industry as a reactive diluent for polyols.
In Chirag enterprise we also help the customers to develop Polymethyl methacrylate plastic pellets and mouldings. These are subsequently used in making profiles, Sheets and other applications similar to the PMMA made from virgin MMA. We help the customers to reduce their raw material cost without compromising on the quality.
Because of our unique manufacturing process and stringent in-house quality checks and systems we are able to deliver consistent quality Recycled MMA to our large customer base in India and also in neighbouring countries.
We do not stop here; we are striving hard to improve the quality of our product continuously and bring it at par with Virgin MMA by adopting new technologies and processes.
We also ensure in our plants that no effluent is generated in our process. We do not have any liquid or gas discharge and all the solid effluent generated are reused as a fuel.
We, at Chirag Enterprise value the significance of import substitution as of utmost importance and ensure that we contribute to the growth of our country by our indigenous process development. We are proud to say that we are the first and the largest manufacturer of Recycled METHYL METHACRYLAE MONOMER from waste plastics in India.
